6 ISBE Updates  New Assistant Superintendent for the Dept. of Teacher and Leader Effectiveness – Dr. Jason Halfer  New IL State Educator Preparation & Licensure Board member – Dr. Barbara O’Donnell  TAP Exam – Effective January 1, 2014 individuals completing teacher preparation must pass this test prior to student teaching.

7 ISBE Updates  Effective January 1, 2014 the SAT may be used in lieu of TAP (composite score of 1030)  Effective September 1, 2014 there will be only one APT exam for all candidates. [Current version last offered July 12.]  edTPA: 2013-2014 all institutions must begin phase-in; 2015-2016 required for licensure  Need to be thinking about how your program addresses preparing candidate for teaching with CCSSM

8 Other ISBE Dates  July 1, 2013: Candidates must have coursework in reading methods & Special Education (methods)  October 31, 2013: Deadline for submitting plans for accepting Race to the Top money to align Secondary Math & Language Arts to CCSS  November 30, 2013: Program Reports  December 1, 2013: IPTS Matrices due

9 Elementary Grades  Beginning October 1, 2015 no candidate shall be admitted to an existing elementary education program.  On or before September 1, 2017, any candidate who is currently enrolled in an elementary program shall complete the program and have the elementary endorsement issued no later than September 1, 2018

10 Elementary Grades  On or before February 1, 2017, teacher preparation programs shall use the requirements of 23 Ill. Adm. Code 1.710 (Requirements for Elementary Teachers) to prepare teacher candidates and will have the elementary endorsement issued on or before February 1, 2017.

11 Elementary Grades  After February 1, 2017, teacher preparation programs shall use the standards set forth at 23 Ill. Adm. Code 20 (Standards for Endorsements in Elementary Education) to prepare teacher candidates.

12 Middle Grades  On or before January 31, 2018, middle grades teacher preparation programs must meet the requirements of 23 Ill. Adm. Code 1.720 (Requirements for Teachers of Middle Grades).  On or before February 1, 2018, middle grades teacher preparation programs must meet the requirements of 23 Ill. Adm. Code 21 (Standards for Endorsements in the Middle Grades).
