W ORLD 2003 – a Giant Event The global meeting place for an industry with annual revenues of over US$ 1.4 trillion The only place on earth where you can meet everyone who matters in telecoms – at the same time, under one roof The event which defines the future shape of telecommunications

W ORLD 2003 – Looking Good All of the space in P ALEXPO is now fully allocated – Halls 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 All but two of the major T ELECOM 99 Exhibitors who said they wouldn’t participate in W ORLD 2003 are now back on board Around 55,000 m 2 of net exhibition space already sold

W ORLD 2003 – Your Success Criteria Measurable Return on Investment Sales and sales leads Successful networking opportunities Enhancement of company’s image / brand Good media coverage Improved customer awareness of company’s products and services

W ORLD 2003 – Our Success Criteria As a specialized agency of the United Nations our events are not-for-profit So our success is primarily measured on:  The success of our exhibitors  Knowledge transfer to developing countries  Successfully bringing together all telecoms players: government, regulators, industry, finance

W ORLD 2003 – Important Issues Access to the Halls Exhibitor & Visitor Registration Accommodation / Work Permits / VAT Road Traffic / Congestion

W ORLD 2003 – Access to the Exhibition Halls Access to all of the Exhibition Halls should be greatly improved for W ORLD 2003 The new Hall 6, linking Halls 4/5 to Hall 7, will provide new entrance and registration areas It will also increase synergy throughout the whole P ALEXPO venue

W ORLD 2003 – Public Corridors in the Exhibition As a new initiative, ITU T ELECOM has decided that the rental fee shall not be charged at W ORLD 2003 for areas inside stands or pavilions which the venue management keeps open as public corridors for safety reasons

W ORLD 2003 – Public Corridors in the Exhibition A rebate of up to 10% will be given to National Pavilions for internal corridors between stands There will be no one-metre set-back for constructions over 2.5m high

W ORLD 2003 – Exhibitor and Visitor Registration System (EVRS) For the first time at a W ORLD event there will be a fully-fledged registration system available Details of all attendees at the event will be recorded, both before and during the event This data will be accessible to exhibitors on a rental basis

W ORLD 2003 – EVRS Visitors and Exhibitor personnel and guests will be able to pre-register on the web Passes for Exhibitors can be ordered online, through the exhibition manual Badges will be mailed out well ahead of time

W ORLD 2003 – EVRS Big discounts will be on offer for advance registration

W ORLD 2003 – Accommodation The ITU and the Governing body of the Republic and Canton of Geneva have entrusted Geneva Tourism with the responsibility for accommodation for W ORLD 2003 Improvements can therefore be expected in the management of accommodation for the W ORLD 2003 event

W ORLD 2003 – Work Permits It has been agreed that no minimum wage restrictions will be imposed upon exhibitors by the Swiss authorities Exhibitors must nonetheless follow the ILO’s conditions of employment

W ORLD 2003 – VAT We are also glad to announce that Bern has agreed that VAT can be refunded to all non-Swiss companies participating in the W ORLD 2003 event

W ORLD 2003 – Parking We are still optimistic that we will find a solution for VIP Parking – hopefully in the P ALEXPO Gardens We are also hoping to arrange parking in P49 for buses, to avoid congestion

W ORLD 2003 – Public Transport We are delighted to be able to confirm that there will be free public transport for event participants at W ORLD 2003 Throughout local Switzerland and across the border in France – or at least within the Canton of Geneva

W ORLD 2003 – Road Traffic / Congestion New bus routes and traffic management were successfully implemented for the 2001/2002 Motor Shows – with new bus stops under Hall 6 Further new bus routes and traffic management will be implemented once Hall 6 is complete (early 2003)

Traffic congestion is therefore forecast to be reduced for W ORLD 2003 in comparison with T ELECOM 99 + I NTERACTIVE 99 Special bus and taxi lanes and increased frequency of public transport should ensure easy access to the event W ORLD 2003 – Road Traffic / Congestion
