2 Personal Rights and Responsibilities

3 During the 1920’s flappers began to dress revealingly, wear make-up, and cut their short. It was not normal Music during the 1960’s began to influence rebellion against the government. In the 1990’s rap seemed to normalize bad behavior. It influenced bad actions and illegal behavior.

4 Medicine and Medical Attention Early medical shows were less graphic and detailed Newer medical shows are more accurate There are more medical shows on TV now. The Wii Fit and Dance Dance Revolution are both games that encourage weight loss and a healthy body.

5 Culture and Changing Roles of Individuals and Families

6 Culture The Roaring 1920s was a time with a consumer economy and the movie and radio industry became extremely popular. In the 1950s the television was the dominant center for entertainment. This caused households to have less family bonding time. In the 1960s the Vietnam War caused a national divide. The music industry fueled protest and led the youth of the nation into more rebellious ways.

7 Continuation… The 1990s rap music encouraged violence and it was degrading towards women. Overall, throughout the decades entertainment industry has become more graphic and it has normalized “bad behavior.” Now the question is does the entertainment industry affect our culture or do we influence the entertainment industry?

8 Changing Roles of Individuals and Families The jazz age inspired the flappers to rebel against society. They moved toward social change and embrace social change and new found expression. The perfect family like the Leave it to Beaver family was the typical goal of the 1950s. Now the entertainment industry shows more diverse families with single parents or adopted children.

9 Continuation… Child or teenager stars are now acting as adults in the entertainment industry. Women are now given leading roles with a well developed character.

11 Technology Our technology advanced during the twentieth century. In the early 1900’s they had music, sports, and theatre. Entertainment grew to be a necessity; therefore, devices had to be compacted for people on-the-go.

12 Technology: Music and Books Music plays a vital role in our society. There have been many types of music players. Radio became a huge hit for talk shows and then was popular enough to hold stations for music. Books have always been on paper, until a digital device was invented that has memory to hold over 1,000 different books!!!

13 Education Schools now use movies and TV shows as tools to further their students’ education. Most schools also have computer labs to help the individuals research into specific topics using the web. Lyrics of songs are used in translating to different languages and used in sentence structure.
