5 Slide 5April 6, 2007 My Recent Trips 10 Days (Jan ’06) & 20+ Days (Feb ’07) United flies direct to Ho Chi Minh City (better known as Saigon) Stayed in Saigon & Long Xuyen; Drove to Hue by bus Each trip spent 3-4 days in Hong Kong

6 Slide 6April 6, 2007 Vietnam Joined the World Trade Organization (2007) Growth averaging 7-8 percent in (2000-2005) Inflation appears to be 8-9% (government target 6.5%) Vietnam has 84MM people, (100MM in 2015) 20% of the population lives below poverty line Per capita income is only $638 a year Median age is 26 (aka, 50% < 26 yrs old) Life expectancy is about 71 Country is fairly small, only slightly > New Mexico California is 36MM people & about 3x the land 672 people occupy each km 2 (438 in NJ, 84 in CA)
