4. The London Eye
Among many of London’s great attractions such as: The Tower of London , Big Ben , The Houses of Parliament , The Buckingham Palace we can also admire the London Eye also known as the Millenium Wheel .

5. The London Eye, the giant observation wheel, is a relatively new landmark for London. It is one of the most popular attractions in the world.

6. The London Eye is located at the western end of Jubilee Gardens , on the South Bank of the River Thames , between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge.

7. The wheel is the largest of its kind in Europe at a height of 135 meters. 1,700 tons of steel were used for its construction. People make special journeys to see the exciting giant wheel.

8. 15,000 visitors can ride on the Eye every day.
A ride on the Eye lasts 30 minutes and you can see up to 40 km in the distance.

9. The architects, Julia Barfield and her husband David Marks, were the winners of the competition to design a Millennium landmark. Their design was the most imaginative projects. The first drawings of the wheel were made on their kitchen table in David developed the idea for a giant wheel and Julia found the ideal site by drawing a circle round London and finding its centre.

10. Not surprisingly, it took about three years to do all the groundwork to get the wheel built. In recognition of their work, the couple were awarded the MBE, a special honour that is given in the UK to someone who has achieved something special.
