2 Course Objective Objective – Know how to create and modify survey forms – able to collect data using the phones – Able to analyse the data – Be able to manage an assessment conducted using phones – Become comfortable with using Android phones and getting a data connection Approach – “Do to learn” using exercises. – Prior to each exercise key material will be introduced and its use demonstrated – There will also be new material that will be shown in the demonstration but not explained until later in the course – Hence you will probably need to ask questions in order to complete each exercise © Smap Consulting Pty Ltd2

7 Fewer trees killed Less to carry around More precise—don’t have to decipher handwriting Ability to use questionnaire in multiple languages Data entry instant—huge time saver; no entry errors. No need for internet or network connectivity while in the field—can conduct surveys in remote areas. One phone can hold thousands of surveys (with limited photo and video) Surveys can be uploaded from any location, which means enumerators can be spread out across a large geographic area and all their surveys could be uploaded to one server and combined into one worksheet for analysis back at headquarters. Ability to create maps Ability to use photos and videos as a part of a survey. Why would anyone want to move from a paper survey to a smart phone survey?
