2 Astringent (adjective)  Definition: severe; stern  Context Sentence: Instead of a mild criticism, our coach gave us an astringent scolding for our poor performance.

3 Benign (adjective)  Definition: mild; gentle; kindly  Context Sentence: Our English teacher’s benign smile welcomed us into the classroom each day.

4 Antidote (noun)  Definition: remedy for poison or evil  Context Sentence: A bottle containing a poisonous substance must have the antidote specified on the label.

5 Convalesce (verb)  Definition: to recover or recuperate from injury or illness; to rest or relax  Context Sentence: After surgery, it is recommended that a person convalesce for at least 2 weeks before returning to normal activity.

6 Convalescent (noun)  Definition: a person recovering from sickness or injury  Context Sentence:  A convalescent should rest instead of stressing out about work and chores.

7 Fester (verb)  Definition: to form pus; rankle, rot, putrefy  Context Sentence: Don’t let your anger fester into a bitter grudge; make sure that you address the situation with the person right away.

8 Immunity (noun)  Definition: a resistance to something  Context Sentences: Mr. Smith had developed complete immunity to the pleas of his begging children.

9 Immunize (verb)  Definition: to make immune or resistant to something  Context Sentence: It is important to immunize your children against diseases such as measles and mumps.

10 Malignant (adjective)  Definition: Threatening to cause death or very evil  Context Sentence: Ray’s parents considered their son’s new friend a malignant influence, someone who was sure to get Ray into trouble.

11 Pestilential (adjective)  Definition: deadly or morally harmful  Context Sentence: Parents, teachers, and politicians have attacked certain TV programs as pestilential to young children.

12 Salubrious (adjective)  Definition: Heathful  Context Sentence: Staci’s salubrious eating habits and exercise regimen have kept her in top physical condition.

13 Sebaceous (adjective)  Definition: Greasy, oily, fatty  Context Sentence: Many varieties of dogs secrete a sebaceous substance that helps to keep their fur waterproof.

14 Therapeutic (adjective)  Definition: Curative, healing  Context Sentence: Writing a personal memoir about their traumatic experiences can be therapeutic for some survivors.

15 Virulent(adjective)  Definition: extremely poisonous & deadly; very bitter  Context Sentence: The politician attacked his opponent with a virulent tirade about his lack of ethics.
