Astringent (adjective) Definition: severe; stern Context Sentence: Instead of a mild criticism, our coach gave us an astringent scolding for our poor performance.

Benign (adjective) Definition: mild; gentle; kindly Context Sentence: Our English teacher’s benign smile welcomed us into the classroom each day.

Antidote (noun) Definition: remedy for poison or evil Context Sentence: A bottle containing a poisonous substance must have the antidote specified on the label.

Convalesce (verb) Definition: to recover or recuperate from injury or illness; to rest or relax Context Sentence: After surgery, it is recommended that a person convalesce for at least 2 weeks before returning to normal activity.
