The American Cincinnattus Remember, Washington learned politics from the ground up. Constitution was not a strong blueprint for governing a nation never created before! He surrounded himself with talent. –Established the cabinet: president’s chief advisors. Hamilton – Treasury Jefferson – State Knox – War

Judiciary Act of 1789 Answered questions about how to create a federal court system. Provided a Supreme Court (6 justices at first). –KEY: Allowed state court decisions to be appealed to a federal court when constitutional issues were raised.

Washington to Adams Old and tired of politics, Washington did not run for a 3 rd term in 1796. In his farewell address, Washington warned “steer clear of permanent alliances”. Adams (2 nd President) Adams’ 71 electoral votes to Jefferson’s 68. Federalist Pres. & Democratic- Republican Vice Pres. Sectionalism becoming a factor.
