2 Recap last lesson…… Stand up and get ready to demonstrate the following types of movement….. 1)Abduction at the hip. 2)Partial rotation of the hip. 3)Flexion of the elbow. 4)Extension of the knee. 5)Adduction of the shoulder.

4 Lesson Objectives… 1) 1)Understand what our muscles do for us? 2) 2)Understand the 3 different types of muscles. 3) 3)Be able to locate and name the different muscles around our body.

5 Muscles… EEEEnable us to move our body parts GGGGive us our own individual shape PPPProtect and keep in place our abdominal organs EEEEnable us to maintain good posture HHHHelp in the circulation of our blood GGGGenerate body heat when they contract

6 Lesson Objectives 1)= 1)= Understand what our muscles do for us? Can you tell me 6 different things that your muscles do for you?

7 Types of Muscle There are 3 types of muscle: VVVVoluntary muscle IIIInvoluntary muscle CCCCardiac muscle

8 Voluntary Muscle TThis is muscle which is attached to your bones and It works when you want it to. TThe muscles shorten or CONTRACT, pulling on bones to give movement. TThey are sometimes called SKELETAL MUSCLE or STRIATED MUSCLE. Messag e to brain?

9 Involuntary Muscle TThis is muscle which is found in the walls of your internal organs. IIt works on its own so you don’t have to think about it. IIt is sometimes called SMOOTH muscle. Stomach Gut Bladder Blood Vessels

10 Cardiac Muscle TThis is a special involuntary muscle. IIt works non-stop without tiring. WWhen it contracts it pumps blood out of your heart. Each contraction is a heart-beat.

11 Lesson objectives… 2) = 2) = Understand the 3 different types of muscles. Can you describe the characteristics of each type of muscle and give an example of where they can be found in your body?

12 What are Your Main Muscles? You have over 600 skeletal muscles. – 150 of these in your head and neck. Luckily you only need to learn 11 of them!!!!!!!

13 Task 1…. Cut out the names of the muscles and place them on the diagram where you think they belong.
