2  William Clark was born on August 1, 1770 in Virginia. He also moved to Kentucky then to Missouri. He died on September 1, 1838 in a mansion at the age of 86.

4  Explorer who with Meriwether Lewis joined the Corps of Discovery and went on the epic Lewis and Clark expedition to explore the Northwest of the United States. The expedition lasted from 1804-1806. Clark was the cartographer on the journey. His slave, York, traveled on the expedition, and was not granted manumission until over ten years later. At the age of 19, Clark joined the Kentucky Militia, and later joined the army. His brothers had all been Revolutionary War veterans.  Clark married Julia Hancock in 1808, and they named their son Meriwether Lewis Clark. Julia died in 1820. Clark then married the widow Mrs. Harriet Kennerly Radford, and went on to have two more children with her.  He became Governor of the Missouri Territory in 1813. He became involved in Indian affairs and served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs in St. Louis, appointed by President Monroe in 1822

5 Clark married Julia Hancock on January 5, 1808, at Fincastle, Virginia, and they had five children: Meriwether Lewis Clark, Sr. 1809– 1881 named after his friend and expedition partner; William Preston Clark 1811–1840; Mary Margaret Clark 1814–1821; George Rogers Hancock Clark 1816–1858, named after Clark's older brother; and John Julius Clark 1818–1831, named after his oldest brother Jonathan and Clark's wife.
