NSF 61 - Purkiss December 1, 2011

Diluted Surface Area- Section 3 Current Requirements of Section 3.2 require 100% complete formulation information for each material except for Table 3.1 materials used in high flow water treatment equipment. Proposal to expand that to include all Mechanical Device and Mechanical Plumbing Device components < 2.0 sq in. that are in Table 3.1 except coating materials.

Diluted Surface Area- Section 3 With the exception of coating materials we have found that the minimum test batteries in table 3.1 cover all contaminants that are included when complete formulations are reviewed. Increasingly complex supply chains have made it more and more difficult to obtain 100% complete formulation information in small components in sub- assemblies.

Diluted Surface Area- Section 3 Proposal excludes coatings, and process media. Only applies to small surface area components < 2.0 sq inches in Section 8 and 9 devices. Will still need documentation of material type. Will require testing to complete test battery of Table 3.1.

Proposed Revision Section 3.2

Proposed Revision Section 3.3

Proposed Changes Section 5 - Coatings Clarify language describing instructions for lab testing and relationship to manufacturer’s published use instructions. Add a cure temperature tolerance of +/- 4ºC. Require airless plural component systems to be operated at the midpoint of the manufacturer’s recommended pressure and temperature range.
