Ecology E 2.1 Abiotic Factors

Abiotic Factors  Living organisms depend on one another and their environment  Biotic – features of the environment that are alive or once alive  Abiotic – non-living physical features of the environment

Abiotic Factors  1. Air  Atmosphere – air that surrounds the Earth  78% of the atmosphere is Nitrogen while 21% is oxygen  Photosynthesis – use carbon dioxide and water to make sugar  Cellular respiration – breakdown of sugar with oxygen to make carbon dioxide and water

Abiotic Factors  2. Water  Most living things are made of 50% to 95% water  3. Soil  Soil is mainly made of minerals and small rocks but it also has materials that used to live

Abiotic Factors  4. Sunlight  Helps photosynthesis take place  5. Temperature  Altitude and latitude change temperature

Abiotic Factors  6. Climate – average weather conditions over time  Includes rainfall, precipitation, temperature, and wind  Wind is created by the sun and convection  Rain-shadow effect may cause one side of the mountain to have forests while the other side is desert.

Abiotic Factors  Biotic  Abiotic  Air  Water  Soil  Sunlight  Temperature  Climate
