A gallon of paint costs $12.99 and covers 400 sq ft. How many gallons are needed to paint two coats on the walls and ceiling (not the floor) of a rectangular room that is 30 ft long, 18 ft wide and 8 ft high? Round to the next whole gallon.
3
I first drew a picture of the room in the question and labeled all of the dimensions 8ft 30ft 18ft I knew I would then need to find the surface area of the room
4
LA= perimeter x height = 30+30+18+18 = 96 ------------------------------------------ SA= (LA+2(area of base)) = (96+2(30*18) = (96+2(540) = (96+1080) = 1176ft 2 I then had to calculate the area of the floor and subtract it from the total surface area 30 x 18= 540 1176- 540= 636 636 x 2= 1272 I multiplied by 2 because the problem calls for 2 coats of paint I need enough paint to cover: 1272 ft

I now I had to calculate the number of gallons needed 1272 = 3.18 400 Rounded to 4 4 gallons of paint are needed
