Uses and properties Platinum is used for many things such as Dentistry Used in missile nose cones because of its reliability at high temp used in jewelry, wire, and vessels for laboratory use Used for coating items that must be exposed to high temperatures for long periods of time Anti cancer drugs Explosives Fiber-obtic cables LCD screens And many more Melting Point: 2041.55 K (1768.4°C or 3215.1°F) Boiling Point: 4098 K (3825°C or 6917°F) Density: 21.46 grams per cubic centimeter It is a solid at room Temperature it’s a silvery-white metal when pure does not oxidize in air at any temperature

FACTS Platinum comes from the Spanish word platina meaning silver Discovered in South America in 1734 by Ulloa Platinum cost about 8 times as much as gold in 1920 It costs bout $500/troy oz right now Platinum is 35 times more rare than Gold Considered the rarest of all the metals Approximately 8 tons of raw ore must be mined to produce just one pure ounce of platinum
