3 APSDEU-6, 1-3 June 2005, KMA HQ 2 KMA still remains as an end-user of foreign meteorological satellites, mainly GMS, GOES and many others. After the successful launch of the COMS in 2008, KMA will have responsibility in sharing COMS meteorological observations with world meteorological community. An integrated system of experts and facilities to receive, analyze, and re-distribute COMS meteorological observations is needed. Why Operational Center ?

4 APSDEU-6, 1-3 June 2005, KMA HQ 3 Function (1/3) Data reception, analysis, and redistribution –Downlink of source data from COMS meteorological Imager (MI) –Generation of meteorological products –Broadcasting the products (LRIT/HRIT services for users) –Receiving foreign geostationary and polar orbit meteorological satellite observations

5 APSDEU-6, 1-3 June 2005, KMA HQ 4 Function (2/3) Meteorological mission control of COMS User Services ( domestic/foreign ) –Expansion of COMS user groups –Training for COMS users –User conferences for COMS users

6 APSDEU-6, 1-3 June 2005, KMA HQ 5 Function (3/3) Planning for the 2 nd Korean MetSat. –Collecting requirements from domestic/foreign users –Establishment of the user requirements –Research on the advanced MetSat. technology and experience –Budgeting –Recruiting new experts Backup of SOCC/KARI
