Olympics Every four years the ancient Greeks would go to the Olympics and they did it to honour the gods Zeus and Hera. Back then the men didn’t allow the women compete. The event was called Olympics because the ancient Greeks did the sports in Olympia. In 393 AD the roman emperor Theodosius banned the games. The games started in the year 776 BC. Gods T he Greeks had lots of gods and each god had a different purpose like: Ares the God of war Athena the goddess of wisdom Apollo the god of music and light Zeus the god of the gods Back to contents

Athens Athens is the largest city in Greece. Athens has lots of farms and its most important building was the temple it was called the Parthenon. Back to city states

Sparta Sparta is important as Athens and they did not get along with each other. Sparta is not very close to Athens, so they had to walk far to attack. Back to city states
