AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT, GOVERNMENT OF GUJARAT

Background Yield Increasing Yield Saving Yield Sustaining Role of Water, Nutrients & plant protection chemicals in agriculture Conservation Optimum Utilization Sustainable Use Strategies

Water Sustainable Use Promotion of Mulching and improved agronomical practices Promotion SRI & SIRA techniques in Rice Promotion of draught resistance varieties Optimum Utilization Special Purpose vehicle for MIS i.e. GGRC More than 7 lakh ha. covered under MIS Electricity Connection to MIS Beneficiaries on priority basis Conservation Large scale programme for water harvesting structure Nos. of structures by GLDC during 11th FYP 6424 village ponds, 50641 farm ponds, 9766 Sim talav

Nutrients To feed the soil for feed the people Large scale bio compost unit at Sugar Co-operatives (2.90 lakh MT Capacity) Promotion of Rotavator for putting back crop residue in soil (> 22,000 rotavators given on subsidy basis in last two years) Conservation Promotion for PSB culture & neem coated urea Promotion of liquid bio-fertilizer Identification of beneficial organism in the area and promotion for multiplication Promotion of fertigation in major crops of the state Optimum Utilization Promotion of green manuring eg. Sunheamp, Dhaincha & Clusterbean Promotion of crop rotation after cotton Extension for use of micro nutrients Sustainable Use Soil Health Card Programme for access the actual need of nutrients

Soil Health Card Programme  Soil Health Card programme was initiated in year 2003-04 in the state.  At present Soil health card contains information on EC, pH, Organic carbon phosphorus, potassium with micro nutrients which is very vital for judicious fertilizer application.  Soil health card also contains the fertilizers recommendation for major Kharif, Rabi and Summer crop of village’s taluka

Objectives of Soil Health Card Programme  Providing soil health card containing Information regarding availability of nutrients.  recommendation of fertilizers on the basis of nutrient status.  Need base Fertilizer application in crop.  Reclamation of saline or alkaline soil on the bases of soil analysis.  Integrated nutrient management to enhance productivity of crops.  More return by reducing cost of fertilizers.  Preparing soil fertility maps

Soil Testing Infrastructure Development Sr. No. Department / Agency TOTAL UNIT Analysis Capacity per annum 1Agriculture Department222,20,000 2APMC626,20,000 3GLDC110,000 4GSSC110,000 5Sugar co-operatives161,60,000 TOTAL UNIT10210,20,000 Up to March 2010 the total soil testing capacity of state was only 2.00 lakhs per annum, which becomes 10.10 lakhs per year up to the end of March 2012. Soil Health Card distributed to all farmers of the state

Plant Protection Chemicals Conservation Extension activities for prevention is better than cure concept. Promotion of Physical & Mechanical control of insect- pest through incentives. Promotion of Seed treatment to extent the first spray of chemical pesticides. Optimum Utilization Extension activities for spread the knowledge and techniques of Pest surveillance. Promotion for timely and required use of chemical pesticides. Sustainable Use Promotion for use of Bt powder, NPV, bio control agents etc. to reduce the use of agro chemicals. Promotion of mix cropping/ inter cropping for mitigate the damage of pests or control the pests. Thanks
