Reading Curriculum: Benchmark o Shared reading lessons focused on fluency and comprehension +new guided reading texts Book Clubs Independent Reading –Variety of genres –Reading Response Notebook Students should read at least 20 minutes per night on average as part of home work.

Organizational Systems/Communication with YOU, the Parents! Daily Planner: Filled out by your student each day at school. Goes home every night to share learning & events with family and to guide homework. Reading homework should be recorded daily in planner. Friday- I will note any missing/late assignments for that week or mark that all work has been turned in. Parents should sign planner on the weekend after seeing homework notes. Monday- Signatures will be checked at school. Boomerangs Folder: Goes home each Friday Newsletters: Look for an email from me each Sunday or Monday with information about current curriculum, important due dates and special events happening in Room 2. Please let me know if you need a hard copy.

Homework? Complete unfinished work from school. Read at home 20+ minutes daily & record in planner Math homework most nights. Word study will come home on Mondays and be due on Friday. Special projects It is your student’s responsibility to complete homework and turn it in on time. Your job is provide a quiet place for your child to work, to answer questions & offer encouragement.

Classroom Environment Be Respectful, Responsible, Safe & Ready to Learn Our classroom community is build on respect, responsibility and ownership. Class Meetings Reward Challenges Orca Awards Reflections Tickets –A student will fill out a ticket if they are not able to get back on track when asked. –A student will get a Whale Warning if misbehavior continues or for more disruptive behaviors.
