R Schweitzer R Schweitzer Verbal abuse is still abuse.
3
What is the main subject of the photograph? The main purpose of the photograph is to get the point across that verbal abuse is still abuse.
4
How does the image use pathos? The image appeals to pathos by the tears coming out of the little boys face, you can see the fear in his eyes, & he is looking up meaning that the person who is abusive is clearly older, larger, or superior to the boy. They also have the little boy without clothes on, sending the message that there is nothing to protect him or he stands alone.
5
How does the image show ethos? The image shows ethos because the Juvenile Protection Association is the company putting out the ad. In doing so, it makes the message more believable and justified.
6
How does the image use logos? The logical appeal in this picture is that it is logical to not abuse children, regardless of what way you do it. The picture is very clear in the message it is sending and the picture is evidence as a whole to support the idea that verbal abuse is abuse.
7
Is the picture balanced? No, the picture is not balanced. If you look closely, the boy is leaning away from what he is looking at and away from the reaching arm. Also, the color on the right side seems to be a shade darker than the rest of the background.
8
Is the photograph effective as a whole? Yes, the photograph is effective as a whole because the hand is choking the boy but the hand is made of hurtful words. The picture shows that it is not right to abuse a kid but the words you say hurt just as much. The picture would affect the audience to support this new trend and fight for those children who feel that they “stand alone”.
9
Color The contrast in color is crucial. All of the words on his arm are in black text, putting emphasis on the negativity and suffocating feeling. The white letters on his arm are emphasizing innocence while pointing out that abuse is abuse regardless of whether it is physical or verbal. Also, the background has a grey tint but when you look closer to the right side you see a darker shade, representing the negativity the child sees but we do not.
