Character Traits

Theme Determine the theme of the story. Think about the author’s message that wasn’t actually written in the story. Write it in one sentence. Also, give two examples.
13
Theme Don’t care what other people think about you. –One way, is that Rose needed to toughen up and face her fears when she would meet new kids and don’t care what the say. –Also, Rose’s friend Nate was afraid what would people say when they see that he’s a country boy and at school.
14
Personal Thinking Use at least 2 reading strategies to explain your thinking (inferring, predicting, using schema, questioning, visualizing, or making connections). Support each interpretation with two or more examples or pieces of evidence from the text.
15
Personal Thinking One, personal thinking I used is schema. Once in the book I used my schema for knowing the Ozarks because I’ve seen pictures and study the area from web information; so I know a lot of the Ozarks. Also, in the book there is a part where Rose gets to read an adult book and if you haven’t read an adult book then you don’t know how she feels, but I do. Another personal thinking I used is predicting. One, way I used predicting is that I predicted a man on the street was a hobo, but was really a tramp. One other way, is that I guessed that Rose gets a disease and I can’t tell what really happens until you read the book. One other way, is that I used inferring. I had to infer that the tramp went to war because the man has a musket beside him. Another way, I inferred is that the little town had mountains beside it, but didn’t know which. However, the Ozark Mountains is closest and is in the title of the book.
16
Genre Explain the genre of your story and find two pieces of evidence from your book that tells you that is the genre.
17
Genre This book is a Memoir for two reasons. First, this book really happened. At the beginning of this book has a page that says that Rose’s mom is real and is an author herself (the mom’s name is Laura Wilder.) Also, this is one part of Rose’s life because she’s only a kid in this book not an adult.
18
Your Recommendation Explain why others should or should not read this book. Write 2-3 sentences.
19
Your Recommendation Little Town in the Ozarks is a book that has a lot of description and can give you an artistic picture. This book would be really splendid for people who are moving to a new town or school or even if you are country child and meet a town kid or visa versa. That’s because in this book the main character, Rose, has to move to a new town and school so she would know how you feel.
20
Setting Explain in 3-4 sentences what is the main setting.
21
Setting The setting in this book is a little town that’s really close to the Ozark Mountains. This town has lots of kids that tease other people as well. This place has a train station, one HUGE school and a church. This place has dry soil, a big meadow, very few trees and wide roads.
