They also were allowed to be bought by their own people. Once free they could live side by side with their former owners.

Africans and Europeans began as equal trading partners, but Europeans began to take control of trade, establish the slave trade, and colonize the land, relations began to worsen. Europeans begin sending in piles of rifles to arm their soldiers as they begin to take more land and resources in Africa.
