5  Interest – e.g., if you know you like fashion, look for an illustrated history of clothing

6  Recommendations (friends, teacher, librarian, GVC Book Reviews, booktalks, etc)

7  Reviews (usually on the back cover of a book: Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, VOYA, Canadian Review of Materials, ALA)

8  Skim a few pages in the middle to see if you like the writer’s style

9  If you know you like one particular thing, look for more of the same (e.g., if you like Twilight, try reading Anne Rice’s books)

10  Genres?  What should I see in class?  Contribution to classroom culture of reading?
