Interest – e.g., if you know you like fashion, look for an illustrated history of clothing

Recommendations (friends, teacher, librarian, GVC Book Reviews, booktalks, etc)

Reviews (usually on the back cover of a book: Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, VOYA, Canadian Review of Materials, ALA)

Skim a few pages in the middle to see if you like the writer’s style

If you know you like one particular thing, look for more of the same (e.g., if you like Twilight, try reading Anne Rice’s books)
