2
Additive Synthesis A synthesis technique that creates a periodic signal by adding sinusoids together.
3
Amplitude The size of a signal.
4
Bass Clef Also called F clef. Indicates the note on the fourth line is F below middle C.
5
Bit Short for “binary digit”. A bit takes on only the value of 0 or 1.
6
Byte Eight consecutive bits.
7
Chord A collection of simultaneously played tones.
8
Clef The sign written at the beginning of a staff to indicate pitch.
9
Fundamental A mathematical quantity describing the repetition rate of a periodic signal.
10
Hertz Units of frequency or repetition rate, measured in periods per second.
11
Loudspeaker A device that turns electrical energy into sour energy.
12
Melody A sequence of notes that make up a piece of music.
13
Microphone A device that turns sound energy into electrical energy.
14
Periodic Signal A signal that exactly repeats at regular intervals.
15
Pitch The perceived frequency of a sound.
16
Rate of Decay A number that describes the way an exponential function decreases over time.
17
Score Notation showing all parts or instraments.
18
Signal A pattern or variation that contains information, usually denoted as s(t).
19
Sound Signal A pattern or variation in air molecules that a sound makes.
20
Tempo The speed of a piece of music.
21
Spectrum A plot of periodic signal’s sinusoidal components.
