Forensic scientists collect and evaluate evidence from a crime scene. Usually evidence is acquired in a random order and forensic scientists must piece the puzzle back together using logical and critical thinking skills—deductive reasoning.

Why sketch the crime scene?
Steps in sketching the crime scene:
Accurately portrays physical facts/evidence
Relates the sequence of events at the scene
Establishes the precise location and relationship of objects and evidence at the scene
Creates a mental picture of the scene for those not present
Permanent record
Observe and plan
Measure distances
Outline the area
Locate objects and evidence within the outline
