2  Patriot A colonist who was against British rule and supported the rebel cause.  Loyalist A person who remained loyal to the British king.  neutral Not choosing a side in a disagreement.  inflation An economic condition that results in an increase in the price of goods.  profiteering Charging an extra-high price for a good or service  veteran A person who has served in the military

3  Why do you think some colonists remained neutral during the war?  They were torn between their loyalty to Britain and to the colonies.  How did the war affect some colonial families?  Disagreements about the war broke some families apart.  How did inflation affect people during the Revolutionary war?  People needed more money to buy the same amount of goods. People began profiteering.

4  What roles did women take on to help the colonies economically during the war?  They ran family farms and businesses, they collected clothing for the soldiers.  How did women take part in the Revolutionary War?  Some took the places of their wounded husbands. They wanted to join the fight for independence.  What woman dressed in men’s clothes so that she could fight during the war?  Deborah Sampson

6  Why did some enslaved African Americans fight in the Revolutionary War?  They fought in exchange for their freedom.  The enslaved person who was a spy for George Washington was?  James Armistead

7  Who was the Mohawk Leader?  Thayendangea also known as Joseph Brant.  What caused Thayendangea to make alliances with the British?  He hoped to stop settlers moving west.
