Comma Rule #3: use commas with standard conventions. 1.In salutations and closings of friendly letters Example: Dear Dad, Yours truly, 2. After the day AND year in a sentence Example: Mrs. Young’s birthday is Wednesday, December 17, 2012, and you do not need to give her a present. 3. After the city and state if it is in the middle of a sentence. Example: I drove to Green Bay, Wisconsin, because that is where my parents and brother live.

Comma Rule #3 continued… 4. Between the street address and the city in an address in a sentence Example: You attend school at 400 Red Hawk Parkway, Smyrna, Tennessee, at Stewarts Creek Middle School. Thing to remember: if you have a comma in the convention, you need a comma after it too!

Things to remember: **Do NOT put a comma after the state if the zip code is listed afterwards. –Example. Green Bay, WI 54915 **Do NOT put a comma between a month and day (January 26) **Do NOT put a comma between a house number and a street name (400 Red Hawk Pkwy)

Practice 1.Bailey received a letter from the post office dated December 33 2033 from Paisley Scotland. 2.He wondered how such a letter could be delivered to Bailey Wheeler 999 MacArthur Avenue Smyrna TN 37129. 3.He decided to send it back May 15 2013 after much thought. 4.The return letter began with the salutation: Dear Future Me What numbers should I pick in the next lottery May 31 2013?
