Photo Montage Using a scanner, images and Photoshop to create a multi-imaged photographic composition

Vocabulary: Layer – act like transparencies placed on top of each other; allow the editing process to be efficient and precise; makes for easy adjustments Opacity – specifies how transparent a layer or object is; allows background and objects to be visible through each other Duplicate – making a copy of the original image Feathering – process of blurring edges around a selection; aides the blending process Scanner – input device used to convert an image or text into digital form for storage or display

Vocabulary: Burn tool – used to darken areas of an image Dodge tool – used to lighten areas of an image Crop tool – used to remove unnecessary areas of an image Filters – allow you to change the look of an image; creative enhancement Flattening – combines all of the layers into a single layer (reduces overall size of the picture file)

Preparation: 1.Sign up for a day to scan your images and objects 2.Collect your magazine images, objects and photos (have them in class for your scanning day) 3.Scan and save each image and object file to your JumpDrive…save all as 4x6 at 300 ppi in a folder labeled “Montage” 4.Pre-plan your composition…what image will be your largest (background) and what is most important and in the foreground? Will you have a specific color scheme…will you alter colors?

Remainder of today Nov 29, 2011: 1.Sign up for a day to scan your images and objects… 2.Complete editing of 5 of your SYMMETRY IMAGES (the 4 step editing process we’ve been using) 3.Upload your 10+ “Thanksgiving Break” images. Resize to 4x6 at 300 ppi and save to your JumpDrive in a labeled folder 4.Begin editing your “Break” images if time permits BE PREPARED TO SCAN YOUR MONTAGE/COLLAGE IMAGES ON YOUR ASSIGNED DAY…NO EXCUSES!
