The different rock layers of Earth’s crust.
2
The 3 layers The Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras are the 3 most recent layers of Earth’s crust. They represent the last 540 million years of life. The 3 layers are included in the Phanerozoic Eon. Phanerozoic Eon- The expanse of time where life has existed. All of the era’s are absolute dates. Absolute Date- A time in history where an important event took place. It is rare to find all 3 layers stacked one on top of the other because of volcanoes, shifting continents, etc.

What’s in the layers? Paleozoic Era- The era of ancient life. It includes invertebrates, jawless fish, jawed fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Mesozoic Era- The era of middle life. This is the layer where dinosaurs are found. Cenozoic Era- The era of most recent life. Contains early mammals, monkeys and apes, and modern mammals (Elephants, cats, dogs, etc.) This layer is still being deposited into oceans, deserts and swamps all around the world.
