COMPUTER NETWORKING COMPONETS Today’s wireless and enterprise networks are more complex than ever, delivering rich data such as video, voice traffic, content at any time, and on any device.
3
HUB In order to connect more than two computers together, a device that distributes packets, or bocks of data. Hubs are a basic device. Cost range from $6 to $100
5
SWITCH A switch is a device that distributes packets, or blocks of data, between computers in a network. Switches function in a similar fashion to hubs but more efficient. Cost range from $100 and up
7
ROUTER A router is a device that joins two different networks together. Home networks usually employ routers to connect to the internet. Cost range from $30 to a $100
9
BRIDGE A bridge device filters data traffic at a network boundary. Bridges reduce the amount of traffic on a LAN by dividing it into two segments. Cost range from $80 to $300
11
GATEWAY The link between two computers to connect to the internet or another network called gateway. The gateway works like a portal among two programs by means communications between protocol. Cost range from $40 to $200
13
FIREWALL Network security system that controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on applied rule set. Cost range from $100 to $20,000 Ranges from zero to a significant amount.
14
WIRELESS AP Wireless access point (APs or WAPs) are specially configured nodes on wireless local area networks. (WLANs). Cost range from $150.00 to over $900.
