What is a sentence? Discuss with your table what you think a sentence is. You can give a definition or an example.

Sentence A group of words that tell a complete thought. MUST tell who or what. MUST tell what is or what happens. Starts with a capital letter Ends with a punctuation mark. (. ? ! )

What does that mean? Examples: WHO OR WHAT 1. Mr. Nolan 2. Your backpack 3. Miss Mysliwy **Did you notice capital letter at the beginning?** WHAT IS OR WHAT HAPPENS rolled up the sleeping bags. is too heavy! graded papers this weekend. ** Did you notice end punctuation at the end?**

Examples of yes and no! Sentences –Ed likes camping. –Our new tent leaks. –The weekend went fast. –Cora and Kayln bought candy at the funfair. –Miss Mysliwy worked the candy shop. *Can you find the who and what is?

To be or not to be? (a sentence) A great place for a vacation. The park has famous hot springs. The first national park in the world. Flows through the park into the canyon. Many different kinds of wildlife. Joes’ family camped at Yellowstone. ** Why or Why Not!?!?

You Do it Now! Table captains grab a grammar book for each person at your table. Everyone fill out CORRECT heading on loose leaf paper. Name, Date, Assignment: Grammar page 15 7-18. DIRECTIONS: Write the group of words that IS a sentence. There is one in each number. SKIP lines between questions!
