Hurricanes and tornados Hurricanes and tornados are dangerous weather that can kill people and animals, and damage farm crops. Hurricane winds can travel to more than 75 miles (120 kilometers). The center of a hurricane is called the eye. It is calm there. A hurricane becomes stronger as it comes over warm water toward the coast. When a hurricane hits land, it quickly loses its strength because the ocean provides it with energy and moisture it needs to exist. A tornado

Heatwaves A heat wave is a long period of unusually hot weather. A heat wave happens when a mass of unusually warm air stays still over the same place for days. A heatwave can effect human health just like other forms of extreme weather.

Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina Formed during 2005,the Atlantic hurricane season. She became the deadliest hurricane to hit the United States for 75 years. Some 1,850 people perished because of her. More than 500.000 people were made homeless.
