1 Mathematics: Smarter Balanced Sample Tests and Performance Tasks Terri Sappington Coordinator, Office of Assessment and Accountability West Virginia Department of Education

2 Questions from Last Week 1.How constructed response questions are going to be scored by a computer? For computer scored constructed response items, all possible configuration of answers are given to the computer as correct answers. Computer will be able to identify correct or partial correct answers and score accordingly. 2.What/How will student answers be scored? Most student responses will be computer scored; some student responses will require human scorers. 3.The role of the facilitator during the actual test. Will everything just be read verbatim? The facilitator rolls will be similar to what it has been in the past. During the classroom activity, facilitators will have a script. 4.The requirements of the students and what they will need to do on the test. Students must understand how to maneuver the various item types on the computer based test. This is most easily done by practice using the Training Test.

27 Practice Test Purpose of the Practice Test – To provide students with a grade-specific testing experience similar in format and structure to the Smarter Balanced assessments – Includes a variety of items (around 30) Follow same procedure as for Training Test
