Dermatology Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the hair, nails, skin and its diseases. A dermatologist deals with conditions of the skin and prescribes ointments for patients. They also perform small medical procedures on patients skin.

Duties Four duties: -Diagnoses and treats the more than 3,000 diseases that affect the skin, hair, and nails. -Excisions and other procedures for removing skin cancers. -Injection of fillers and botulinum toxin to give patients a more youthful appearance. -Cryotherapy and other procedures to remove common skin growths such as warts and actinic keratosis. They do lots of hands on work. They must be flexible minded and probably don’t want a weak stomach.

Work Environment Dermatologists primarily work out of a medical office. Most, if not all dermatological surgical procedures can be completed on an outpatient basis (in the office) as opposed to in a hospital. Dermatologists enjoy a fairly set schedule in addition to the other perks. They may work in a group with other dermatologists, or work alone, as a solo practitioner. Additionally, dermatologists may work as part of a group of physicians who practice a variety of specialties. Such medical groups are called multi-specialty medical groups.

Education Requirements
Medical Degree (4-6 Years) is required. Yes there is very many co-op programs. Recommended High School Classes: -biology -organic chemistry -physics -chemistry
