2 2 How Levenfeld Pearlstein is Adapting and Implementing the Sustainability Policy  Four years ago, the Executive Committee authorized the firm to implement a sustainability program.  First law firm to pilot the ABA Model Sustainability Policy. (http://www.abanet.org/environ/committees/climatechange/M odelLaw/about.shtml  The ABA Model Sustainability Policy can be a framework for universities.  Positive feedback from our staff, clients, and the press helps drive it forward.

3 3 Economic Responsibility  Our organization is positioned to survive and prosper economically and fairly compensate employees.  Chief Operating Officer regularly evaluates financial condition of firm and makes changes as necessary.

4 4 Economic Responsibility The National Law Journal recognized LP’s focus on economic responsibility. “Putting into practice its philosophy that a law firm should operate as a business is helping the firm and its clients survive the downturn.”

5 5 Social Responsibility LP respects employees, promotes wellness and diversity in hiring practices and treats employees and clients with respect.

6 6 Social Responsibility Charitable Contributions Funding for: –Employment of clinical social worker at an inner city elementary school –Early intervention program to combat autism for children of low-income teenage parents. Funding continues through economic downturn

7 7 Social Responsibility  Winning Habits –rewards employees who participate in activities conducive to good health.  Wellness Week –wellness seminars and health testing for employees.

8 8 Environmental Responsibility We will conserve our use of natural resources and energy to the extent practicable, reduce waste, limit pollution and reduce supply chain impacts.

9 9 Environmental Responsibility  Only Chicago-based law firm and third law firm in the world to join the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) and offset its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.  Legally required to calculate and offset its office electricity use and corporate travel, and is carbon neutral.  Monetary incentive to reduce electricity use and corporate travel.

10 10 Environmental Responsibility LP’s Environmental Task Force has implemented measures, including:  Mandatory paper recycling, use of paper from sustainable forests, and double-sided copying;  Requirement to turn off lights when not in use;  Provides reusable glasses and coffee cups stating “Levenfeld Pearlstein, Always Thinking Green.”

11 11 Environmental Responsibility Enforces policies in a light- hearted way via tickets distributed to each violator. City of Chicago Green Office Challenge- 1 st Tier.

12 12 Environmental Responsibility Provided fluorescent light bulbs to each employee. Uses an email trailer on all outgoing correspondence:  Levenfeld Pearlstein is committed to our environment. Please join us and consider not printing this email unless necessary.

13 13 Cost Savings Savings of $18,000 per year by:  Switching to compact fluorescent bulbs  Replacing disposable plastic cups with reusable mugs and glasses

16 16 Informs the public about its sustainability programs.
