What should I do if they tell me they have been abused. Calm, don’t criticize, reassure them, report to your supervisor KNOW YOUR POLICIES

Mandatory Reporting As a member of the AmeriCorps team you are considered a mandatory reporter. Mandatory reporters are required to report known or suspected abuse or neglect of a child under the age of 18 immediately to the Program Director. If the child is in immediate danger talk with your local Host Site Supervisor or law enforcement and then follow up with the Program Director. Make no promises and remember you are not law enforcement.

REVIEW STANDARDS & CHALLENGES MONTHLY WITH YOUR STAFF

Your Safety is #1 Know what your sites plans for safety are. Know your sites first aid kit, fire extinguisher, AED locations. What happens if you get hurt, how do you report this. Understand your insurance. Assess the risk before the event, share concerns with your Host Site Supervisor. If you feel you are at risk of injury or harm, do not participate, bring it to the attention of the individual in charge!
