29
TDR Cost estimate: Scope The cost estimate covers only the costs for the 500 GeV design as detailed in the TDR, to be expended during the 8 year construction period. Costs for project engineering and design, R&D prior to construction authorization, commissioning, pre- operation, operation, and de-commissioning are not included. Costs for upgrading the machine to 1 TeV are not included in the baseline estimate, except the cost of those systems which would be very difficult to provide after construction of the 500 GeV machine. An approximate cost for the 1 TeV upgrade will be provided separately. 11/5/2015 ILC PAC 29

(ILCSC – Bagger) GDE position paper submitted to ILCSC Aug 2011. The paper addresses: –Technical Goals proposed for 2012+ program? Value engineering; Continued system demonstrations; Increasing energy reach; + – Organizational Issues for 2012+ post GDE? What are primary GDE assets that should be preserved? What are the primary GDE weaknesses that should be improved? We must define what systems tests must demonstrate for each LC option before construction of a LC? ICFA??

‘Bread Shape’ under Study Cost-and time-effective in Japan

CFS Study: Progress in Japan JFYProgress 2009 AAA volunteered to study ‘ILC tunnel design’ for SB2009, 2010 Local communities (LCs) organized geological survey by themselves. KEK studied 8 cases of the tunnel design, and reached a ‘Bread-shape (Kamaboko) shape tunnel’ to be an economical candidate, specifically, in Japanese mountainous regions. 2011 AAA re-volunteered to evaluate the tunnel design and environmental conditions, to assist KEK. LCs reported the geological survey to KEK. KEK going to progress the engineering work of tunneling, electrical, and mechanical issues, based on the information given by AAA and LCs, Japanese Civil Engineer Association is active to professionally assess the geological surveys and civil engineering. S&T Policy Council of the Cabinet received a brief report from MEXT on Sept. 1, on science objectives of the ILC project and global status. A Supplemental Budget being discussed at the Diet to encourage/boost recovery of national and regional activities. It may include some support for further site-dependent geological studies at the candidate sites in cooperation of KEK with the local communities (universities, and local Gov.)

14-Nov-11 PAC - Prague Global Design Effort 43 Conclusions The major R&D milestones for TDR are essentially in-hand The Technical Design Report will be a self-contained comprehensive R&D report; with a design based on new baseline; a new value costing; and a section on project implementation planning We seek your advice / concurrence on our system tests goals and program Post–TDR program is being planned: extend energy reach; complete systems tests; evolve design based on technology development and LHC results
