STI had Pre-Academic Classes as Pre-Req’s Varying Levels ◦ MATH 098 – Basic Algebra ◦ MATH 095 – Basic Math (very few students) ◦ ENGL 098 – Grammar and Sentence Construction Pre-Reqs put students behind in preparation for MATH heavy curriculum or general writing

2 Credit Class – 1 hour lecture/ 2 hours lab ◦ Continuation of ENGL 101 assignments Grammar Sentence Structure Writing Lab Coordination between ENGL 099 and 101 instructors is essential ◦ Assignments in ENGL 101 were due earlier in ENGL 099 ◦ Drilled down on the assignments in ENGL 099 ◦ Utilize TurnitIn.com

2 Credit Class – 0 hours lecture/ 4 hours lab Utilizes I Can Learn Software ◦ Matched objectives from MATH 101 (not all) ◦ Self-paced Student does a pre-test Receives required homework based upon needs Self-tutoring with reinforcement video support Math Lab with Instructor as the Support

SmartThinking is required for both now Grades were pass/fail but needed grade for financial aid Need good attendance in 101 as well as in 099 ◦ If people came, they could make it through ◦ If students have their work done, they are done Grading is the same at 101 – better of both

Coordinated schedule better – smaller classes Evening class for overflow Common instructor is best Students were there for varying amounts of time based on practices Placement is still a concern as there are students in 101 that should be in 099 and then are students in 099 that may not need to be in 099
