Monitoring Student Behavior Its important to monitor both: student involvement in learning activities student compliance with classroom rules and procedures

Prompt Management of Inappropriate Behavior There are 4 easy rules a teacher can use to deal with inappropriate behavior 1. Appropriate physical signals (Eye contact, Finger to lips, Shaking head) 2. Remind the student of the correct procedure 3. Redirect students if they get off task 4. Ask the student to stop what they are doing and monitor them until they stop

Building a Positive Climate using Incentives and Rewards Incentives and rewards can be used to motivate students to do better and behave better Incentives can be as simple as a competitive learning game within a class Rewards in a classroom include things like (Food, Extra points on an assignment)

Consistency It is important to be consistent when: Applying rules and procedures to all students Consistency with rules should be broken only if a student’s individualized education program stipulates it

Problem Solving Teachers use both constructive assertiveness and empathic responding to solve problems in the classroom It is best to trust students at first when trying to solve a problem If the trust is broken then the teacher should be more demanding on that student about the problem within the class

Communicating with parents Teachers should always treat parents as a team member Teachers should avoid being defensive and threatening It’s a good idea to post weekly grades of students and let parents know how they can access those grades.
