1 HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A PART OF CASITA’S STUDENT COUNCIL???

2 WHAT IS STUDENT COUNCIL? Student council is a group of students who come up with ideas to make Casita an even better place to be. Members plan and participate in fun school activities and community service. Fourth and Fifth graders at our school elect the Board members who they think will represent them in the best way.

3 WHO GETS TO BE ON STUDENT COUNCIL? Student Council Board (elected officers) Fourth and Fifth grade class representatives. Student Council

4 WHAT KIND OF TIME COMMITMENT IS INVOLVED? Student Council Board meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, at lunch, to set the council meeting agenda. They also need to be at the full council meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Classroom representatives meet on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, at lunch, to plan and organize school events. Representatives are also responsible for reporting information back to their home classes and to bring suggestions to the council meetings from their fellow students. All council members may need to commit to additional time before or after school to support planned events.

5 WHAT ARE THE ELECTED POSITIONS? President : He or she will plan the agenda and run the Student Council meetings and represent the school at different events. Vice President: He or she fills in when the president is absent. The Vice president also participates in the council meetings and assists the president and other board members in planning the agenda. Secretary: He or she records what goes on at the meetings. He or she also reports at each meeting what happened at the previous meeting and takes attendance. Publicity: He or she is responsible for communicating all events to the school community. This may require poster making, school announcements on News Crew, or other means of communication. They will head a publicity subcommittee. IB Ambassador : He or she will head the IB Committee. This is an important new role this year and will require some afterschool time to produce videos highlighting the attributes of an IB learner. Sergeant at Arms : He or she is in charge of keeping the student council meetings running in an orderly way. He or she explains the code of conduct and enforces it, during meetings.

6 THE GOOD NEWS… Any fifth grader who runs for an elected position will become a part of student council, even if they don’t win!

7 HOW DO I APPLY? Get an application from Ms Cerelli’s website. http://gcerelli.weebly.com Complete the application and all required signatures. Return the application to Ms. Cerelli no later than Monday, September 23 rd at lunch. Come to a very important meeting on Tuesday, September 24 th at lunch in room 3, to get more information on the election rules and when voting will take place.
