Good Morning 1-6-2015 Step 1: Please grab your notebook and Huckleberry Finn Step 2: Please open your notebook to a new page or where you left off of from yesterday, date it, and label it Journal Near the end of Huck Finn (near chapter 31). Why is Huck upset when Jim is sold? Why is it important that Huck says, “All right, then, I’ll go to hell.”? OUTSIDE READING BOOK PROJECT DUE JAN 8th & 9th :)!!!! 3 Days!

Huck Finn Review Game Directions: 1. Choose a Partner! Come grab a handout once you have that partner. 2. Grab a pair of scissors 3. Slice up the sheet, so that the individual lines of the game are loose and can be reordered. 4. First group to get this 5. When you’re done, give the class the answers and then discuss any plot points the students don’t remember.

“Advice to Youth” 1.Read: Annotate as asked 1.Then Look up 5 of the words and define them. Write on paper given. 1.Finally List at least three things that Mark Twain is critical of in “Advice to Youth”, and explain the point that he is trying to make about each one.

Claim, Evidence, Warrant Definition of Claim: An assertion usually supported with evidence. Usually includes a support, refute, or qualify statement. Example: Students should not have cell phones in school because it is a distraction in the classroom Definition of Evidence: Evidence provided to bolster the Claim and support the Warrant. Backing: In 2010, cell phone violations were the second most disciplined offense at Kentridge High School. Definition of Warrant: the implied statement that creates a logical connection between the Claim and the Backing. Example: Even though cell phones are banned from school, it is assumed all students carry a cell phone with them, and many of them send text messages in class, but are never caught.

As Odysseus must soon prepare to take back his castle we need to think about how he will defend himself. This is a kill or be killed scenario... Brainstorm with your table mates a list of weapons available to Odysseus? (put in notebook) What other cultures use those weapons? How has weaponry changed over time? If you were around then what weapon would you choose? Weaponry of the Odyssey

Below your reading logs answer the following questions: 1.What is Eurylochus’s “insidious plea” (lines 879-894)? If you were a member of the crew, would you be swayed by this argument, or would you heed Odysseus’ warning? Do you think murdering the cattle is justified, or is it sacrilege? 1.Odysseus constantly takes personal credit when things go right, but on lines 915-918 he blames the gods for letting him fall asleep. Missing Book Presentations Take Diligent notes while your peers teach you about parts of the Odyssey that you will not read. Ask any questions you may have so there is clarity.
