Sex role stereotype This is defined as: – An organised belief about the behaviour, attitudes and characteristics expected of males and females. – Stereotypes cause us to overemphasise the similarities between individual members of the same group while overestimating the differences between different groups.

Children’s gender stereotypes When do children become aware of gender stereotypes? – Think back to when you were little, when did you start thinking boys and girls were different? – Would you have worn pink (boys) or played with action men (girls)?
