2 A Good Resume Should… Have appropriate contact information List sections from the greatest to least importance Not be longer than two pages Use different action verbs Use present tense verbs for current positions and past tense for former positions Never have references on it Always be checked for spelling, grammar, and punctuation

3 Landing an Interview… Go to career fairs, information sessions, etc. (any event that the company you are interested in might be participating in) Make yourself known Apply online to your school’s recruiting site Apply online to the company’s website Make a good first impression

4 Do’s & Don’t of Interviewing DO arrive on time DO your research and review the job description DO dress professionally DO review your resume DO ask questions DO look the interviewer in the eye, firm handshake DO remember the interviewer’s name DO thank all your interviewers DON’T discuss vacation, bonuses, etc. during an interview DON’T be late DON’T interview unless you are genuinely interested DON’T be overbearing or conceited DON’T condemn past employers or institutions. Keep comments positive

6 Questions to Ask the Interviewer What are the responsibilities/duties of the position? How did you come to work here and why do you stay? How is one successful in this position? What are the characteristics you look for? Are there projects in motion for which I would inherit responsibility?

7 Questions to be Prepared to Answer Why do you believe you are qualified for this position? Can you describe situations where you took the initiative? What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in five years? What would you consider your strengths? Describe yourself in three words.
