What should be done? 1.Coal and coal fired power generation: - the over-riding problem worldwide - a solution is needed more than anything else 2. In military terms, this means - big bangs costing affordable bucks 3.EU’s current policies are - small bangs costing unaffordable bucks 4. Gas in place of coal as quickly as possible 5. Much more R&D of new technologies, such as CCS 6.A sensible EU policy for emissions ahead to 2030 - not multiple, over-lapping targets In terms of energy policy and climate change:
