June 2008Peer mentoring 8 The mentor’s role It depends on the facility, but generally a peer mentor:  Welcomes new caregivers  Gives constructive feedback to mentees  Teaches clinical skills, policies, and procedures  Leads by example  Offers guidance in problem-solving  Can act as a “go-between” for staff and supervisors
