Oxidation Reduction Reactions Also called Redox Reactions One reactant becomes oxidized (lose electrons) and one reactant becomes reduced (gains electrons). 2Ca + O 2 -----> 2CaO Transfer of electrons from the oxidized reactant to the reduced reactant. Some Redox reactions can be spontaneous.
