Marbury v. Madison Supreme Court Case Marbury v. Madison established the power of courts, sets precedent: Judicial review courts have power to declare laws unconstitutional affirms checks and balances/separation of powers

Westward Expansion Santa Fe Trail/Oregon Trail were major routes west. Mormon Migration pushed into west Gold Rush led to flood of settlers West

Manifest Destiny: Ideology that America was destined to expand to Pacific was justified by ‘divine providence/God’ many thought Pres. James K. Polk major figure behind Manifest Destiny wanted territory from Mexico. God told me that we should have that land, and that you should make me a cake
