ROMAN NEWSPAPER WRITING: IT SEEMS LIKE MAYBE WE NEED SOME HELP…
2
HERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT I THINK YOU MAY HAVE NOT REALIZED YET… This is going to take some creativity. You are not going to be able to find the main ideas for your article word-for-word in the text. You have to look a little deeper For example: Sports– You will not know specific gladiator’s names (you have to make them up) War/Military– You may not know the exact battle plans (you have to make logical predictions) Local – Your event will not be significant enough to find it in your text book, but you can guess at something that would have been of interest to your reader Science – Pretend you are a scientist…what would you be teaching your reader? Human Rights – Come up with a SPECIFIC EVENT to be arguing for Opinion – Your argument must be based on facts, but you have to be arguing for something that affects your people
3
LET’S LOOK AT AN OPINION ARTICLE BRAINSTORM My opinion of my topic is: Reason To support it:: Supporting Details: Reason someone would not support it: Supporting Details: What will happen in the future: Supporting Details: This is to help you write your topic sentence This is to help you start you paragraphs This is to help you get your text support
4
NOW IT IS TIME TO GET SOME BRAINSTORMING IN: YOU ARE GOING TO MEET WITH THE PEOPLE THAT SHARE YOUR TOPIC WITH YOU!
5
ONCE YOU ARE THERE… YOU SHOULD DO THE FOLLOWING: 1.Come up with a list of possible ideas for your topic: Here is a starting idea for each of them: Julius Caesar: His assassination was what Rome needed. (opinion article) Punic War: The crow was what helped us win the First Punic War. (War article) Gladiators: The epic fight where Joseph Awesome destroyed Philip the Ton (Sports article) Technology: Arches will allow people to walk more freely through Rome. (Science Article) Christianity: The disciples of Christianity visited my door last night – I wish they would just leave me alone! (Local Article) Plebeians: The Patricians don’t want to share in the Senate with us! (Human Rights/Justice Article As you will notice – None of these are necessarily real events…but we can ASSUME THEY COULD HAVE HAPPENED… Get Creative!
6
THEN MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR RESEARCH SHEETS – YOU ASK THEM NOW!!! This is your opportunity to compare notes…don’t miss out on it!
7
NOW FILL OUT YOUR BRAINSTORM TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY TO GO FOR TOMORROW!
