Welcome to The Mojave River Wildlands… Water Walk

Water Walk… Water Uses Let’s “Brainstorm” how you and your family use water!

Water Walk… Personal Water Uses Estimate of Personal Water Use Washing Dishes 5 - 10 gallons Laundry 10 - 20 gallons Cooking 1 - 2 gallons Bathing 15 - 25 gallons Toilet Use 5 - 15 gallons Sink Use 3 - 5 gallons Miscellaneous 1 - 3 gallons Each Person Uses Approximately 40 to 80 Gallons of Water per Day! 8-16 of these/day or 5.3-10.6 cubic feet or 0.045 - 0.09 acre-feet/year

Water Walk… Family Water Uses How much water on average does your family use in one day? One person uses about 54 gallons of water a day for indoor uses only. A family that owns a home in Victor Valley uses about gallons of water a day for outdoor uses. Now, you do the math… ____ family members x 54 + ____ (if your family uses water outside) 4 4(54) + 115 = 331 gallons of water /day or 120,815 gallons /year or 37% of an ac-ft/yr 115

Water Walk… Where to Reduce First… 28% + 19% + 15% + 3% = 65% in the bathroom!

Water Walk… Water Use… Some Facts… Most toilets use over 40% more water than needed. Many homes lose more water from leaky taps than they need for cooking and drinking. Less than 3% of the water delivered to homes in Victor Valley is used for drinking purposes. All High Desert residents rely upon groundwater as their water source. The MWA is currently providing rebates to water users that want to install low flow toilets, frontloading washing machines and for replacing grass with xeriscape.
