2 How it started  Worked to adapt Yorkshire ideas and created a course for Oxfordshire  Ran a trial course in 2013 –four 1 hour sessions –with nine children –parents were present throughout the sessions –the children also had other SEN needs

3 Course outline  remove pedals and stabilisers  check helmets  check bicycles  how to get on and off bicycle  push bicycle  sit on bicycle and scoot  add one pedal  add the second pedal

4 Assessment 1 st day5 th day Can put their cycle helmet on correctly Can check their bicycle is road worthy Can walk and push their bicycle Can get on and off their bicycle Can sit on the saddle and walk their bicycle (scoot) Can scoot and stop their bicycle safely Can scoot on their bicycle and lift both feet off the floor Can pedal with adult support Can pedal independently Can pedal and stop safely Can turn to the right Can turn to the left Can stop at a line Can lift their right hand off the handle bars Can lift their left hand off the handle bars Can cycle between cones or between lines

8 Learning along the way  The child needs to be able to put both feet flat on the floor  Bicycle size  Riding outside  If child experiences difficulties return to first steps

9 Feedback from parents  “…I can’t believe that in days they have learnt to cycle”  “R has achieved more after 5 hours with you than we managed in 7 years”  “….boosting their confidence and self-esteem”  “This course has made a really big difference to my daughter’s life”
