First Quarter Review Marigolds

Maryland Science Content Standard Based on data from readings and designed investigations, cite evidence to illustrate that the life functions of multicellular organisms (plant and animal) are carried out within complex systems of different tissues, organs and cells. –Extracting energy from food –Getting rid of wastes –Making raw materials

Objective Students will develop a scientific investigation to prove the needs of plants for growth and development as well as reproduction Title: Marigold Growth Date:6/4/2016

What is a Flower? Look at the marigold bud…. –What is a flower? –What would you do if the flower dried out? –Is there anything located in the “bud” under the flower?

Look Closely After breaking the “bud” open, what is located? –What is the property(ies) of life that is represented with what was found?

And Then There Were Needs.. If we were to plant the seeds, what needs would have to be met to keep the plant alive? Create a graphic organizer to determine which organelles in the plant cell would be responsible for each need being met.

Are Flowers Just Pretty? What is the purpose of the flower? If the flower is able to form due to the lack of the needs being met, what is a possible outcome for the plant? Explain.

Next Steps….. We are going to plant the seeds. –What variables will be responsible for growth and development of the plant?
